Absolutely disgusting and not in touch with reality. What a joke.Īnd the "good" ending at the end doesn't fix any of the issues, the fact is that the movie still glamorizes the playboy lifestyle, dehumanizes the female characters, and sends the wrong message that a womanizer can be "fixed" by the "right woman". And it teaches that he can't be held responsible for his actions because some girl in middle school rejected him, so now he's afraid of commitment. The women in this film aren't even treated as people, but rather as playthings for the protagonist. It teaches horrible pickup tricks that you should belittle and play mind-tricks on women and they'll come crawling to you. It's full of stereotypes, portraying women as hysterical, ditzy, and objectifying them at every turn. If you're watching this with kids, it's extremely inappropriate, and not just because of the constant talk about sex, but rather because it sends extremely harmful messages to boys and girls alike. Both movies deserve a watch, but I can and have rewatched Scrooged several more times.I don't know in what world this movie passed off as a rom-com, there is nothing romantic or comedic about this film. Murray may not be as mean as McConaughey, but he’s a lot more endearing and fun. Emma Stone plays a great ghosts of girlfriends past, but the exposition slows the movie down. Ghosts feels a little slow, and they spend too much time on the past. So which one is a better movie? I prefer Scrooged because it’s funnier and moves well. He’s a real piece of crap, and it’s obvious they tried to make him hateable. He’s hollow and would staple a mouse’s head to make a costume work. Murray is a selfish, true cynic of a man. ![]() In Ghosts, that ghost (his uncle) stays with McConaughey throughout his journey and even pushes McConaughey into his own grave. The first ghost in Scrooged has one primary scene.Garner is quick and sometimes nasty to him. Garner hates McConaughey he has obviously jaded her against men and relationships, but she’s not quite ready to give up on love. She clearly loves Murray and wants a future with him she supports him throughout the entire movie. Allen is sweet, a do-gooder, donates her time to the less fortunate. The love interests are very different characters. It actually deals addresses the pressures of getting married, and if you are single, the pressures of fitting into a society full of love and couples. Even though both use the same format, Ghosts is not a Christmas movie - it’s a true rom-com.The ghost of Christmas/Girlfriends present is the most interesting ghost, both are women, and neither are afraid to teach the main guy a lesson. The main characters are successful in the entertainment industry. They both have a brother, who is really the only person they love. Both have a strong actor who plays the main character (aka the a’hole) In Scrooged, it’s Bill Murray in Ghosts, it’s Matthew McConaughey. In Scrooged, it’s Karen Allen in Ghosts, it’s Jennifer Garner. ![]()
